Do You Have a Second (or Four) to Talk About the 2018 Mustang GT?

What can you get done in four seconds? Ford makes some fun suggestions, like chugging a bottle of water, landing a figure-skating jump, or chopping a cucumber. But we think the best use of your time is going from 0 to 60 mph in a new 2018 Ford Mustang GT.

According to Ford, the all-new Mustang GT is faster than a Porsche 911—the fastest Mustang GT ever.

How is it so fast?

The 2018 Mustang GT has a more powerful engine, getting 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. This updated engine is now paired with a 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission, which makes a big difference according to Carl Widmann, Mustang chief engineer. "Gearing matters," he says.

Drag Strip mode gives the Mustang GT much quicker acceleration on the straightaway, helping it achieve a 0-to-60 under 4 seconds.

"Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time," Widmann explains. "In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you're shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission."
